Strengthening democracy evidence and communication around the Summit for Democracy

This project, supported by the European Commission, aims to contribute to more effective evidence-based and coordinated support for democracy in view of the Commission’s Team Europe Democracy initiative. EPD participates in the project as part of the European Democracy Hub, together with Carnegie Europe, in a consortium with International IDEA (lead) and Reporters without Borders. International IDEA and Reporters without Borders will both update their monitors on the state of democracy and press freedom globally, and International IDEA will support the Democracy Summit by monitoring progress on the commitments and hosting dialogues on the commitments. The European Democracy Hub will contribute with the i) production of relevant reports and studies with actionable policy recommendations, ii) provision of in-depth analysis of democracy support funding at the EU and member states level, and iii) establishing a structured network for sharing expertise and experiences on the topic. This will fund the research for the Annual Review of European Democracy Support for 2023, the data collection and analysis that will be conducted for this, and a series of shorter analytical pieces on the European Democracy Hub website.
