EPD member, the European Association for Local Democracy (ALDA), in partnership with PASC-Tunisie, organised a meeting with the representatives of civil society and local authorities interested in opening Local Democracy Agency (Agence de la Démocratie Locale – ADL) in Kairouan, Tunisia.

The meeting took place on 28 April 2016 and brought together CSOs, media and representatives of the municipality and governorate of Kairouan. ALDA and the municipality of Kairouan signed a memorandum, announcing their plan to launch the first LDA in North Africa in October 2016.

The LDA will promote local good governance, citizens’ participation and sustainable development. The agency’s activity will be carried out in the framework of a dialogue involving citizens, local associations and local authorities aimed at meeting the needs of the population.

It will constitute an operational platform for debate, and take part in the negotiations between civil society and local authorities, providing a practical exercise of democracy and active citizenship. It will also work as a training and resource centre.

You can find more information about the LDA here.
